Overview
The majestic, powerful falls are a set of three waterfalls, two located in New York and the third in Canada. On the American side, check out Bridal Veil Falls and the American Falls. On the Canadian side, you can see Horseshoe Falls. These are some of the most powerful waterfalls in the world as six million cubic feet of water flow over the edge every minute. You can see them from many angles, take adventurous tours up close to the falls, or just marvel from afar.
The towns of Niagara Falls (one in the United States and the other in Canada) are very touristy, but this means that all your needs can be met within close proximity to the falls. There are plenty of restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers close the falls and lots of signs to keep you from getting lost. Since you won’t have to worry about where you’re going or how far you are from a snack, it’s easy to relax and enjoy this natural wonder.
NatureThe falls are a natural wonder and the main attraction in Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Ontario. There are many outdoor activities to do in relation to the falls. One of the most popular is to take a ride on the Maid of the Mist, which takes you to the base of the falls and leaves from the Canadian side of the falls as well as the American.
Get up close and personal with the falls (which means you’ll get wet) in the Cave of the Winds. In the cave, you’ll be able to stand at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. Feel the power of the rushing water and be glad you put on that complimentary poncho.
Learn about the falls, their creation, and their present ferocity at the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center. Check out exhibits on the geology of the area as well as the local flora and fauna. It’s a good break indoors while still learning about the natural wonders of Niagara Falls.
Kid FriendlyKids will be in awe of the falls, which will likely keep them mesmerized for quite awhile. Take them on the Maid of the Mist and to view both the Canadian and American Falls. But what do you do after that? There are a surprising number of options.
For something completely different, check out Ripley’s Believe it or Not and the other attractions in the Ripley’s complex. Let the kids make wax hands to bring home as a souvenir or take their picture with the wax figures of your favorite stars. Catch a show in 4-D at Ripley’s Moving Theater where you’ll really feel like you’re skiing along the slopes on screen.
The Fallsview Indoor Waterpark is a good way to spend a day or a couple of afternoons. Since the park is indoors, you can enjoy it all year long. Swim in the wave pools, send the kids down the water slides, and take the whole family on an indoor rafting adventure.
