Overview
A land-locked country in southern Africa, Zimbabwe is a place of extraordinary beauty and proud of it. From Victoria Falls to extensive grasslands, Zimbabwe is a diverse country ready to entertain. Zimbabwe also takes care to protect the wildlife it shows off. Antelope Park is home to the ALERT lion rehab program that is working hard to save the African Lion, a species whose population has declined by over eighty percent since the 1970s.
If you need a break from nature and want to explore other aspects of local culture, head to the capital city of Harare. The National Gallery and National Archives give a glimpse into the culture and history of Zimbabwe through some of the country’s most treasured artifacts and most inspiring art. In the city, you can sip locally made beer at the corner bar or drink coffee at an outdoor café to do a bit of people watching.
AdventureBungee jumping at Victoria Falls? Swimming with elephants? Safari in a canoe? These and more adventures await you in Zimbabwe. Get ready to go hiking, kayaking, and for flights in tiny airplanes. Book a safari to track black rhinos. Or try some white water rafting on the Zambezi River.
Ever heard of gorge swinging? It could be the new bungee jumping and is another sport to make your mother say, “You’re going to do what? Is that safe?” Strap in and allow yourself to be lowered down into the gorge in a controlled freefall before swinging in the gorge for a while and finally being lowered to the bottom. You’ll get an adrenaline rush and incredible view of the gorge.
NatureThe moderate, tropical climate combined with the many natural wonders in Zimbabwe make it an ideal destination for travelers who wish to spend most of their trip outdoors. Head to Mana Pools National Park to spot hippos and elephants as they lounge at the edge of the four park pools. Or head to Hwange – it is home to over 30,000 elephants as it is an elephant sanctuary. Birders also love Hwange as there are over 400 species to see.
On the border with Zambia, the legendary Victoria Falls gush water across their one-mile span. Listen to the roar of the falls grow louder as you hike from town to the falls. Or book a flight for an aerial view of the mist and thunder of the water. How many rainbows do you see as you glide high over the water?
